Children and Family Session Prep Information

What Should We Expect?

Get ready to have fun! Meghan Mace Photography sessions involve a lot of goofiness, a lot of movement and a lot of fun!

There won’t be a ton of ‘look at the camera and smile photos’, but we will grab a couple and then we will get moving! Candid shots and ones of you of your family just being yourself are what I love the best.

What Should We Wear?

My usual recommended rule of thumb for family photo sessions is: Coordinating, but not matching.

Pick two or three colors and then embellish the outfits with patterns and accessories. This could include scarfs, hats, ties or jewelry. The main colors tie everyone together, while the accessories let personalities shine through. I usually recommend staying away from green, black and white as your main colors. Pops of it here and there are perfect!

Avoid green, especially if possible, as many of the outdoor sessions have tons of green in them already from the scenery. Second, avoid shirts with logos or writing as these tend to look a little dated in future years. Third, and most importantly, wear something you are comfortable in!

How Does Scheduling Work?

Often I am asked why I schedule photo sessions so late in the evening during some months. The answer behind those questions is due to one factor: the sunlight!

In the summer months and into part of the fall, the sunset occurs much later in the evening. The hour or two right before sunset is when the lighting is perfect for photo sessions. There is a golden hue and most of the time everything is nice and even. It creates the best environment for photographs!

To that I say, thank you for adjusting your schedules and possibly pushing back both nap and bedtime. I understand it’s not always ideal, but, trust me, you are going to love the lighting at this time!

Feel free to bring snacks if needed! For you or the kiddos!

Senior Portrait Session Prep Information

What to Expect?

Senior sessions with Meghan Mace Photography are relaxed and laid back. We will pick a perfect location for your session and go through a variety of poses. If you feel like you don’t know what to do during photo sessions, don’t worry at all! I’ll walk you through the poses and you’re going to feel like a natural before you know it.

What to Wear?

Usually, I recommend clothing that you like and feel comfortable wearing. It is important that you like your look and how you feel!! Grab something casual, something more dressy and maybe something that represents a hobby that you enjoy.

Then go ahead and add some fun accessories! This is for guys too as it includes different shoes, watches, ties, or even hats. (Girls, hats are super cute for you as well!)

Feel free to send me outfit pictures with any questions, I am more than happy to help!

Lifestyle Newborn and Newborn Fresh 48 Session Prep Information

What Should I Expect at My Newborn Session?

Whether you have a ‘Lifestyle Newborn Session’ or a ‘Newborn Fresh 48 Session’ scheduled, you should expect it to be a relaxed photo session. Meghan Mace Photography newborn sessions involve focusing your little one in the early moments of life. The photos are focused more on the interactions of your little one and family members and the new environment your little one is being welcomed into.

I won’t be bringing props or swaddles with me to the newborn session and rather will focus on using your baby’s own swaddles and blankets. These elements help to make your baby’s newborn session uniquely hers/his.

What Should I Wear?

Normally, neutral colors, such as beige, grays, whites or creams are perfect for newborn photography sessions. If you can, avoid bright colors or anything really strong, such as red or green for your photo session. Make sure it is an item you are comfortable wearing and something you want to see on your walls for years to come. Usually, this means avoiding shirts with logos, brand names or sports teams on them.

Just as suggested in the family and children’s portrait section, family members can coordinate for the photos. Normally having everyone wear the same color and matching completely isn’t recommended, just so you can give your photographs some definition and variety.

Also, above all, remember that you are BEAUTIFUL! I know having a baby is rough on your body, but know that you just made human life and that, my dear, is AMAZING.

What Should My Little One Wear?

If you want, you can start your little one in a onesie or jumper that is special to you. We can use it for a few shots and then if it is warm enough, your little one can spend some time being photographed in her/his own blanket or swaddle.

When Should I Feed Baby?

If you can, feed baby right before the session starts. Start a little bit early, if possible, to make sure your baby is done eating, full and happy when the photography session starts.

Should Baby Be Sleepy?

Ideally, yes it would be great if your little one was sleeping for her/his newborn photo session. However, let me also say that you JUST had a baby. That’s a lot to go through. Therefore, if you can’t time it so your little one is sleeping for her/his newborn session, please don’t stress!!

Life happens and sometimes newborns don’t want to sleep for their photo sessions. Sometimes these new little bundles of joy just want to be awake and a part of the action!! You can’t blame them either, there is so MUCH to see and explore those first few moments of life!

We are going to roll with the punches and are going to capture life unfolding before us! It’s going to be great, don’t worry.
